AMINO ACIDS

amino acid model

Amino Acids, as the building blocks of proteins, support many essential biological functions including giving cells their structure as well as transporting and storing nutrients.  They also play a key role in healing wounds and repairing damaged tissue – including muscles, bones, skin, and hair.  Glutamine, Arginine, Taurine, Carnitine amongst others, all fall under the Amino Acid category that is essential for every metabolic process.

Each Amino Acid has its own special benefit in the body but all aid in the balancing of the body’s metabolism. “Essential” amino acids are the compounds which cannot be produced by the human body and must be provided by nutritional supplementation or food products.  Branch chain amino acids or BCAA’s, include leucine, isoleucine, and valine, which are used oftentimes in nutritional supplementation for athletic performance and exercise.   “Branched-chain” refers to their chemical structure.
