EXCIPIENTS

excipients

Excipients are ingredients that contribute functional as well as structural characteristics to various dietary supplements. They are not used in products to contribute nutritional benefits, rather they are present for a variety of other important reasons. Excipients make it easier for you to consume and use the active ingredients comfortably and safely; some are used to help the supplement disintegrate in order to reach the blood stream quickly or some are used to maintain the product’s stability.

On the manufacturing side, excipients are used to ensure production of high-quality products on a consistent basis. They are used as anti-caking agents to help tablets and capsules flow through production with minimal challenges. Excipients can also be used as a binder to keep all the ingredients together in a tablet and not allow them to crumble into a powder. Lastly, capsules with micro ingredients need a carrier – otherwise, without any excipients used, they would look practically empty. The use of non-toxic excipients are safe and are an essential part of dietary supplements.
